Study Permit

A study permit is an important document for international students to be able to study in Canada for more than six months, even if you are holding a passport from a visa-exempt country. If you will study in Canada for 6 months or less, you do not need a study permit, unless the program requires a co-op or internship. However, we recommend our clients to apply for a study permit regardless the length of their study, the benefit of having a valid study permit in this case is

  • you can continue studying in Canada if your studying situation changes
  • you may be able to work on- or off campus if you are a full-time student registered in a DLI
To apply for a study Permit Outside Canada

You may need the following:

  1. Valid passport or travel document
  2. Proof of financial support
  3. Two photos of yourself
  4. Acceptance Letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada (unless a minor is coming to Canada with a parent(s) who has a valid study or work permit)
  5. Other documents, such as police certificate, medical examination, etc. It depends on your case.
